Hello, Grandparents and Aunts, and welcome to the inaugural Alex Update!
On Tuesday of this week (18 June 2002), I was 6 weeks and 1 day old and as such had my 6 week check-up. Here are my vital statistics:
Weight (bare): 5.306 kilograms (or 11 lbs 11 oz). I was 3.850 kilograms (or 8 lbs 8 oz) at birth.
Length: 58 centimetres (approximately 28 inches, I think). I was 53.5 centimetres long at birth.
Head circumference: 39.5 centimetres (about 19 inches, I think). My head was 37 centimetres at birth.
So I’m growing – a lot! I don’t fit into any of my newborn-sized (0000) clothes anymore, and only fit some of my 000-sized clothes. It’s not so much my manly chest which is the problem, but my looooong legs and feet.
And guess what? I’m also smiling – a lot! Until today I hadn’t been very co-operative about smiling for the camera, but I think Mum caught my big toothless grin on film this morning. Because Mum has been so busy taking photos with a ‘real’ camera (while we still have Kathryn’s here), I don’t have many recent photos I can email to you with this Update, but to make up for it, I’ve put some photos in the post to each of you and I’ll have some more digital ones to include with my next Alex Update. The one that is attached of me with my Mum and Dad was taken on Tuesday night. Note how I’ve ‘signed’ my Dad’s t-shirt…!
I’m almost due for my immunisations, so I think D-day will be Saturday of next week, when I’ll get vaccinated against hepatitis B, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, polio, menangitis, and something-or-other-else-the-name-of-which-escapes-me-at-the-moment. I shouldn’t imagine I’ll be the happiest of bunnies after that, so it might make for a slow photo-taking (and sleepless, my parents fear) weekend.
Speaking of sleepless, I’ve arranged to pay Mum and Dad back for any sleepless nights they ever caused you. At one stage a week or two ago they thought I was well on the way to sleeping through the night because I was only waking once to be fed, but I’m now back to waking twice per night for feeds, and still waking early (EARLY!) for some more food. I now quite happily guzzle 180 mls each time I eat, and I want to eat every four hours. You can almost set your watch by me!
I’ve had (at least) three people to cater to my every whim, every day of my life, but Sos (Auntie Kathryn) is going back to Brisbane early next week, so the King (as I have come to be known) will have make do with just Mum and Dad. I hope they can take me on as many tours of my Kingdom as I have grown accustomed to… 🙂 I will miss Sos VERY much, but she has promised to come down and visit me often.
Anyway, it’s time for the King to sleep now.
I love you all VERY much!
