Jess Update (XIV)

Monday 25 July 2005

Hello, family & friends, and welcome to my 14th Update.
Today I am exactly 11 months (or 47 weeks + 5 days) old.
The most exciting news is that – just today – I started trying to stand up on my own!  I pulled myself up to a standing position and then… let go!  I tried this a good few times, and although I only ever managed to balance for a couple of seconds, I was very pleased with myself and my new-found ability!

Since my last Update, I’ve been quite sociable.  As you know, Grand-Annette was here for a few days in the week before last, then I got to spend a couple of days with Nanna & Granddad last week.  I’ve been to Mothers Group a couple of times – and plan to go this week, too.
Also, I’ve had a little holiday!  Daddy took a few days off work at the end of last week and my little family and I drove up to Port Macquarie for a few days’ holiday.  We had a lovely time, but I suspect when my Mum was booking the hotel she didn’t realise that Port Macquarie was so much further than Lake Macquarie…  I don’t think Mum would have subjected herself to five hours in the car with alex and me quite so readily!!  Anyway, we had a nice break away from home, and although I didn’t sleep very well in the car, I travelled OK.  We went to Flynn’s Beach yesterday before heading home and I had a wonderful time crawling around the beach, eating sand (I just didn’t seem to learn that it’s not good to eat) and getting caught out by an overly enthusiastic and fast-moving wave!
Nanna & Granddad are coming up again tomorrow to visit me.  I’m hoping to get to spend some time with them on my own so I can show off my new standing-&-balancing trick, and wow them with my general cuteness.
I’m still a really good eater.  On an average day, I usually have a whole banana (mashed) with one weet-bix for breakfast; some sultanas and cheese for morning tea; a sandwich, a piece of fruit and some nibbly bits for lunch; and a plate of vegetables and chicken for dinner, followed by yoghurt.  In fact, the only times I get whingey are when I’m hungry (or pooey).
Having said that I get whingey, I should tell you that I am still a very easy little person to get along with.  I love everyone and am constantly stopped by strangers in the street wanting to comment on my gorgeously enormous blue eyes and my obviously sunny disposition.  My very cute waving always reels ’em in, too!  😉
I’m definitely saying "No!", and using it in the right context.  I’m quite sure about what I want and don’t want, and have a delightful way of emphatically waving someone or something away if I’m not keen on it/ them, all the while saying, "No, no, no, no, no!".
After being a baldy baby for so long, I now have some hair, but unfortunately it’s not evenly distributed.  I’ve got reasonably thick locks at the back and in the middle on top (so that I could have a mohawk, if baby fashions permitted), but no hair on the sides or at the very front.  It’s quite the look!  My parents are suspecting that I might end up with lovely curls like my brother because the back of my hair is starting to get a bit of a kink/ wave to it.
Once again, peoples, I think that brings me to the end of my Update.  I hope this finds each of you happy and well, and I look forward to seeing or hearing from you soon.
Lots of love and giant baby cuddles from
Jessica
