Wednesday 13 April 2005 Hello, and welcome to my 9th Update. Today I am exactly 33 weeks old. Last week I was weighed (fully clothed) and tipped the scales at 8.25kgs. Before I get on with things, a huge CONGRATULATIONS to James & Aly Smart for bringing my newest third cousin, Andrew Timothy Smart into the world on 07 April 2005!
Although I’ve been my usual sweet, happy and placid self, I’ve been battling a nasty cold on and off for weeks now, and I’m starting to get annoyed with it. I’m very stuffed up and I’m well and truly sick of my parents charging at me with tissues. Don’t they know how sensitive my little nose is?? I’ve got a nasty cough to go with it, so Mummy’s taking me to see the doctor on Friday. I’ll let you know how I go.
Because I’m just doing a brief Update tonight, here’s a quick run-down on what I’ve been up to since I last wrote…
On Easter Sunday I went with Mummy, Daddy and Alex down to Sydney to visit Granddad & Nanna. I had a wonderful time slithering all over their loungeroom and ‘helping’ Alex play with toys. If Nanna & Granddad thought I was a fast slitherer then, they should see me now!
I do get up onto all fours and rock backwards and forwards (often), but haven’t yet crawled. I’ve been told that my brother was a fantastic slitherer, too, so perhaps it’s a logical first step (pardon the pun).
What I have started doing, however, is pushing myself up to a standing position when I’m supposed to be sitting on Daddy’s knee. I’ve been told (rather sternly, actually) that that is NOT on and that I must remain at ground level for some time yet. Apparently standing wasn’t supposed to be in my repertoire just yet…?
At the end of March my Mothers Group came to my house for our weekly meet. It was great fun! I try to see my friends each week, but they meet at an awkward time of day, so I often have to leave early. When everyone came here, though, Alex and I could have our scheduled day sleeps, and when we woke up, we still have friends here to play with!
On the very last day in March, Mummy and I went down to Sydney to visit my third cousin, Noah, and his Mum, Melanie. We had such a lovely time that we went back the following week!
A couple of weeks ago, Daddy put me to bed while Mum went out to netball. I didn’t go to sleep straight away, and in fact I had a bit of a cry, but Daddy said that eventually I did go off to sleep. When Mummy got home, she came into my room to feed me and change my nappy before she went to bed, and found me fast asleep, but half-propped up on my arms, with my head about ten centimetres above the bed, resting on the mesh wall of my portacot! Mummy raced in to tell Daddy, who thought that Mummy was "Belinda-ising" the story, so he came to look for himself, but I really was exactly like that!
I’m lots of fun to be around. I absolutely love to play "Boo!" and am very good at pulling something (towel, wrap etc) over my eyes and pulling it down again, waiting for the all-important, "Boo!"
About a week ago I got myself from all-fours into a sitting position, but since then each time I’ve tried to do that again, I’ve sort of fallen and rolled onto my back. Very frustrating, but I have no doubt that I’ll master it soon. And I’ll be sure to let you know as soon as I do.
And here endeth my 9th Update.
I hope everyone’s really well!
Lots of love,
Jessica xx
